Ferme Deslande Inc. (Quebec) |
Dairy operation: milks 70 Holsteins (plus replacements and calves) In a modern free stall barn and tower silos. Farm size: 550 acres (225 hectares) 425 acres (175 hectares) alfalfa 100 (41 hectares) corn. Our farm is located in the Estrie region of Quebec, Canada where it is hilly, windy and is divided in several small fields. We take the production of alfalfa dry hay and alfalfa silage very seriously as it is the base of our feed program for our high producing dairy cows. More protein in our forage means less protein supplements to be purchased. We cut/condition our alfalfa crop after 3.30 in the afternoon thus “locking in” the maximum of nutrients. |
Owner of a TOP 1251 rake!
|
Because of the high moisture in our soil, we follow by the tedder early the following morning in order to “fluff” the crop and take advantage of the sun and wind in our valley; it works wonders. Now, here is where we used to have a bottleneck as we could not rake our crop “just in time” in order to have both all the leaves on the stems and the ideal dryness in order to bale as fast as we could. With the 1251A rotary rake we move from field to field in a matter of minutes as we like to rake before the crop is dry enough for baling. The 1251A gives us a perfect sized swath, high and fluffy which allows the valley winds to finish the drying cycle. We then follow with our large baler and the result gives a very high protein level in our dry hay crop. We at Ferme Desland need to add that working with our local POTTINGER dealer Beauregard Equipements Inc. and with POTTINGER CANADA INC. is a very positive and enjoyable experience. They all have our best interest at heart and it shows by the way that they act. We will now look at a very large tedder in the near future. Signed, Richard Deslandes |

|
Jack Kempenaar is owner of Meadow Valley Dairy Farm with 3000 cows. He runs 2 Novacat 8600 ED, Eurohit 91 AZ, 2 Eurotop. “We immigrated from Holland long time ago, and when we needed a new mower combination, we knew the Pöttinger brand from Holland and knew the quality and thinking behind. The capacity and the work are very good, but in the dairy farming today the grass silage making is one of the points where we can easily increase the output! Better grass silage is worth gold – and this is possible with machines from Pöttinger. |
We had already Fendt tractors (also from Europe) and the mower combinations that we have can run in reverse mode, and this is for us the perfect way to go! Even the Pöttinger's North America head office is in Canada they are OK on the service, and the parts we can also get in a fair time“. Jack Kempenaar Como, Texas |
Dann Volkmann, Henning, Minnesota |
Dann Volkmann has no specific farm, he owns and operates a custom work business, specializing in grass harvesting for quality hay production. Dann runs Pöttinger Eurotop 771 & 1251, Novacat 305 HED & 306 FED. “When we are doing high quality hay, we need good machines! After a research on the market the decision was quite clear. Pöttinger is not the cheapest machines, but if you com- pare the price/value, Pöttinger gives you the best for the money! The mowers are doing the cleanest cut I've ever seen, this is a very important thing in alfalfa growing. |

|
When you have a clean cut you have a faster re-growth! We like the way the machines are built in general! They do not look too heavy, but the engineering behind, and the steel quality on the machines make them run for a long time without any kind of troubles“. „The service we have from Pöttinger was not too good, but since last year when Pöttinger made their own company in Canada, we have been really satisfied with the small warranty cases we had on our big rake“. Ours is a real family enterprise; we thrive to keep it modern in all aspect of the word from feeding equipment and for field production equipment we rely heavily on the good advice of our Agritex sales representative (Clement Claude) whom we have known for many years and have learned to trust him in his good judgment and having our best interest at heart; he is really concerned for our present and future successes. We demand and enjoy operating equipment with above average performance. Our production is 250 acres (100 hectares) alfalfa haylage and dry hay, 3 cuts per year and 75 acres (32hectares) corn silage, complemented by a high moisture grain corn and other high energy grains all mixed in a TMR mixer (Total Mixed Ration) cows are fed in proportion to their milk production in order to keep good animal health and maximize their yearly milk production. |
Our 135 high producing milk cows brings in close to a million CDN-$ per year. And with some custom work keeps three families enjoying a good quality of life. We own 500 acres (205Hectares) and rent another 200 acres (85Hectares) and are always looking for more land near our farms, to own or to rent in order to systematically expand our operations. |

Mr. Tommy Grenier, 790 Route 116 East, Ste-Christine, J0H 1HO, Quebec, Canada
We produce high quality hay for resale also do custom work in order to justify keeping good quality equipment operating well. We ted, rake and bale some 400 acres (165hectares) 3-to 4 cuts per year of alfalfa for resale plus some 500 acres (205hectares) 3-times a year for others; (custom work). We produce approximately 3000 large square bales 85% of them wrapped at low moisture (approx; 35% moisture) which makes excellent feed for milk production and is the preferred feed of goats and sheep producers. |

|
We maintain a good clientele who count on us to sell them the best in forage and we make sure we do not disappoint them. Good equipment is very important in making quality hay; due to the high moisture in the soil in this part of Quebec a good performing tedder is a must followed by a good reliable and gentle hay rake; we ted while the crop is still very high in moisture this allows it to dry faster and we rake while it is still at approximately 50% moisture and under a heavy sun and some natural wind the drying cycle finishes in the windrow; this way we keep all the alfalfa leaves and we can produce alfalfa at 23-24% protein content and a very palatable fiber with the ruminants. We like the Pottinger quality and rely on our dealer to keep us running when we possibly could have a break down.
